Martvili sits in Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti in western Georgia, 50 km north of Kutaisi. The town's main draw is the Martvili Canyon — a narrow limestone gorge carved by the Abasha River, with a 700-meter wooden walkway suspended above the rapids and turquoise pools. An optional inflatable-raft ride takes you through the lower canyon and under hanging vines and small waterfalls.
Above the canyon, the Martvili Monastery (11th–12th century) sits on a forested ridge — once a royal residence of the House of Dadiani. A short cable car connects the lower town to the monastery. Most travelers visit the canyon as a day trip from Kutaisi or as a stop on the Tbilisi-Batumi cross-country route.
