Borjomi is the home of Georgia's most famous mineral water — bottled here since 1890 and sold across the former Soviet world — and a small spa town in a forested gorge in the central Caucasus. The Borjomi-Kharagauli National Park, one of the largest protected areas in Europe, starts just outside the town.
The town itself is built around the Borjomi Central Park, a long Victorian-style botanical promenade running along the Borjomula river, with the famous Catherine spring at the top. A short cable car climbs to a viewing plateau above the gorge. Half an hour's drive higher is the Bakuriani ski resort — a Soviet-era alpine village with modern lifts.
