Sighnaghi is a small 18th-century walled town in Kakheti, the wine-making heart of Georgia, perched on a ridge above the Alazani Valley with the Caucasus mountains rising in the distance. The town's pastel-painted balconies, brick lanes, and panoramic terraces have earned it a nickname — Georgia's "city of love" — and you can technically get married here 24/7 at the Sighnaghi marriage palace.
The real draw is the surrounding wine country. The Alazani Valley is dotted with family-run qvevri wineries — Pheasant's Tears in Sighnaghi itself is the most famous — and the Bodbe Monastery, where St Nino (the woman who brought Christianity to Georgia in the 4th century) is buried, is a 10-minute drive downhill.
